Officially established in 1972, Preservation Institute Nantucket (PIN) is one of the nation’s oldest, continually operating field schools for historic preservation. The program prepares the next generation of heritage specialists as part of applied research and learning that helps document, conserve and manage the island’s historical, architectural and cultural resources.

Nantucket is an historic wonderland situated more than 25 miles east of Martha’s Vineyard. Its distance from the mainland makes it a desirable place to escape.  Tourists and preservationists alike are drawn to the island’s well-preserved stock of late 17 th century and early 18th century buildings, cobblestone streets, historic gardens, natural cranberry bogs, and miles of pristine beaches. Nantucket is also a prime destination for students and professors of astronomy.

The small, remote island is only accessible by boat or airplane, and can be easily navigated by bicycle and on foot.  Bicycles are available for rental, and Nantucket also has an affordable public bus system.

It is an idyllic and ideal place to both study and experience historic preservation, and to learn and practice photogrammetry.  Please join us!

Cost: $500 (no housing provided)

$750 (housing provided, limited seats available)

* 3 credit hours of graduate coursework can be earned by completing the Photogrammetry Workshop, 3D Laser Scanning Workshop, and additional week of practice documenting a resource on the island using the skills acquired in the workshops.
