Cemetery Conservation Workshop at Olivewood Cemetery in Houston, Texas
April 24 and 25, 2015
NCPTT, in partnership with the Descendants of Olivewood Cemetery will offer a cemetery monument conservation basics workshop April 24, and 25, 2015. The training is targeted to the nonprofessional, such as church sextons, genealogists, cemetery grounds workers, and family members. The workshop registration is $25 per person and limited to 30 people, so please register early.
The lecture portion of the workshop will begin at 7:15 pm on April 24th in the Bradford Taylor Center at Trinity United Methodist Church (2600 Holman St. Houston, TX). NCPTT Materials Conservator Jason Church will talk about techniques for cemetery documentation and developing a preservation plan. The Workshop portion will begin at 9:30 am on April 25th at Olivewood Cemetery (1300 Court St. Houston, TX) and conclude at 12:30. The workshop will begin with Charles Cook leading a history tour of the site, This will be followed by conservator Jason Church leading hands-on activities including proper cleaning techniques for grave markers.
