The Louisiana Archaeological Society and Mississippi Archaeological Association joint meeting will take place February 19-21, 2016 in Natchez Mississippi. The Natchez Convention Center will serve as the host venue. 2016 is a year of celebration for the two organizations. This joint meeting will commemorate the construction of Ft. Rosalie by the French at Natchez 300 years ago, the founding of the National Park Service (NPS) 100 years ago, and the establishment of the Grand Village of the Natchez as a Mississippi State Park 40 years ago. Participants can attend the business meetings of either organization as well as several joint sessions. The organizations will also have a joint banquet featuring keynote speaker Mr. Jim Barnett, former Director of the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians and author of The Natchez Indians: A History to 1735. Additionally, tours of the Natchez National Historical Park, including the Fort Rosalie site (weather permitting), and the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians site and museum will be offered to conference participants.
