Christopher Fennell of the University of Illinois recently concluded a study on the use of aerial thermal infrared technology to identify the infrastructural features of archeological sites.  The research was the result of a 2007 NCPTT grant award. Working at the 19th century town of New Philadelphia—the first town platted and legally registered by an African American in the United States—Fennell found that the technique holds promise for detecting buried structural foundations.
