Bridle System

Researchers used a bridle system from the top of the gateway arch to reach areas of staining.

The St. Louis PBS station, KETC, broadcast the Mid-Century Modern Symposium as part of their “Science Matters” series. Host Jim Kirchherr introduces us to the research of the gateway arch as part of a four video article newscast showing how science benefits society. The August 5 episode shows researchers studying the stains on the Gateway arch and participating in the Mid-Century Modern Structures Symposium. It also includes an interview with Susan Saarinen who was the guest speaker at the symposium. Science Matters is a multimedia effort on the part of PBS and uses radio, television and the Web to encourage audience interest in science and exploration, STEM education and environmental sustainability and stewardship in our community.
