This Best Practices Manual
is a document designed to instruct the public and cultural resource managers in the most effective use of the emerging technology of mechanical scanning sonar in the study, management and preservation of submerged archaeological remains. The document is presented in an easily understandable format with the goal of not being encyclopedic in content, but providing readers a summary of the topic and references for more in-depth study.
The creation of this manual was made possible with the support of the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training.
