El Morro National Monument is also known as Inscription Rock. Its name stems from for the carvings in the stone done by the various people who have crossed it. While many native people interacted with this area the first European interaction was believed to have occurred in the early 1600s. In 2007 a group led by Charles Haecker was able to trace the interaction of Europeans in the area to the mid 1500s. To check out a live webcam of Inspiration Rock, check out this link.
