Chaco Culture National Historical Park is home to Chaco Canyon. For over 100 years, this region has been home to many archaeological finds. Archaeologists and visitors alike have found tens of thousands are artifacts over the years. These finds include prehistoric vessels, stone and bone tools, and matting and sandals. Projectile points, hammers and mauls, and hoes and digging sticks were also found. These are just some examples of the many artifacts found in the park. Did you know, for the past 115 years of more, visitors to Chaco Canyon collect and take artifacts home with them even though it is illegal? Often, the park receives anonymous packages containing stolen artifact. In 2013, the park received designation as an International Dark Sky Park. This designation marks it as one of the best places in the country to view the night sky.
